A trip that will take me to some of the best states. Learning the culture, trying local foods and putting Mexico and its people on the map.

Cholula, Puebla.

Hello everyone, so i find myself in the beautiful state of Puebla in the city that also has the same name; Puebla. One of my many aunts lives here with her daughter and her son, Palmira and Efren. They have taken me in for a few days and they said that they will show me around the city. There is a lot of history down here, pre-hispanic period and after the “Conquistadors” stopped by era.

today we visited the city of Cholula, which is next door to Puebla. it is said that there is one church for every day of the year in Cholula (about 365 churches) but in reality there is about 30 something, since the other ones are just small chapels and most of them are located in haciendas and ranchos that are privately owned.
There is also the ruins, “the great pyramid” which is the most important tourist attraction with a church on top of the hill. At first the pyramid looks like a hill, but slowly the pyramid has been excavated and resulted in a network of tunnels inside. One of the things that i liked the most of today’s exploration was that at the top of the hill and and the same time at the top of the pyramid, it is possible to see the Popocatepetl, iztaccihuatl, pico de orizaba and La malimche volcanoes in the far eastern horizon.

It is believed that the base of the pyramid is the biggest in the Americas, the base is 120 meters on each side. The most important fact to understand here is that, before the pyramid was found, people built a church on top of the hill, later on explorers and archeologist would find the remains of what once was a place where offerings and religious sacrifices took place, since skeletons and ceramics have been found on this area.

Til next time…. jose merlos
take care and God bless you all.
